Unearthed Update: October 22nd (ISAAC and Skoob Sprites)

A few more small updates for Unearthed! EarthBrent and Ninjamaru were kind enough to contribute sprites for both ISAAC and Skoob, two of the main characters in Unearthed. These sprites are not 100% completed yet, but still look pretty great! Here is a short a simple video showing them off:

Here’s a list of the other stuff I’ve been up to:

  • Revised game outline to include new abilities.
  • Bug tested some doors and ladders.
  • Re-arranged some enemies throughout the game outline, to pace things a little better.

I should have some more updates for you all next week!

TWISP Episode 1.10: Marvels (Let’s Play Separation Anxiety)

This is The World Is Square Podcast (TWISP) Season 1, Episode 10. The simpler a game is, the worse Matt is at it.

Every week Michael, Mathew and Geoff conduct irreverent discussions focused around a central theme, while attempting to beat a classic video game. The game is picked ahead of time by Michael, with no prior knowledge given to Matt and Geoff. They usually hate whatever game he picks. This week’s theme was Marvels and the chosen game was Separation Anxiety for the Super Nintendo.

Unearthed Update: September 24 (Empty World Walkabout)

I’ve been mainly fishing through the ROM for bugs lately (not very exciting), so I thought I’d whip up a quick video to keep the blog interesting. Below is a walkabout of Unearthed’s game world, hosted by myself, Radiostorm (Matt), and Geoff. It shows off some of the game’s areas, outlines the overall narrative of the game, and gives you a chance to see how everything is connected.

As you can see, there is still a bit of bug testing to do! Next week I’ll have some more sprites to show off (ISAAC hopefully), and a few other odds and ends.

TWISP Episode 1.9: Batman (Let’s Play The Adventures of Batman and Robin)

This is The World Is Square Podcast (TWISP) Season 1, Episode 9. Matt hates everything to do with The Dark Knight Rises.

Unearthed Update: August 13th (PC Sprites II)

Just a short little update this week! Here’s another gameplay video showing off Mitchell’s PC sprites. There are some minor changes from the original set; mainly the fact that Mitchell has a slightly bigger shnozz that looks better while he moves diagonally. You can check it out below, as well as a small preview of the game’s Crystal Mine area.

On the “boring but necessary work” front, I have completed the abilities spreadsheet which lists off every ability that can be used in Unearthed. This includes enemy and NPC abilities, so it’s quite the expansive document! RS will be reviewing it over the next week or so, while I put together a comprehensive item list.
Baby steps maybe, but necessary for a high quality finished product!

Unearthed Update: August 6th (PC Sprites)

EarthBrent and NinjaMaru have been hard at work this week, putting together some really great sprite-sets for Unearthed. Although they’re not completely done yet, they are a great sign of things to come for the game! Take a peak below for some pixellated artwork of both Mitchell and ISAAC!

And as an added treat, I made a little walkabout video with Mitchell in his hometown of Glensborough. It’s a big ol’ empty game world at the moment, but it is good to see the game working at even its base level.

TWISP Episode 1.6: Dragons (Let’s Play Battletoads & Double Dragon)

This is The World Is Square Podcast (TWISP) Season 1, Episode 6. Another game that Geoff and Matt actually like.

TWISP Episode 1.5: Dungeons (Let’s Play EarthBound)

This is The World Is Square Podcast (TWISP) Season 1, Episode 5. This week I tried to pick a game that Matt and Geoff would really like.

This week’s theme was Dungeons and the chosen game was EarthBound for the SNES. We played the “dungeon man” section of EarthBound, because playing the whole game would be silly.
